Finally finished the updated reference for my main character Jess the Hedgehog, now with a full bio and history. This took me quite a while to do, mostly because of planning for her background as well as figuring out how I should have designed this reference.

I made a few changes to the character over time, such as tweaking the gloves and shoes, as well as removing her ability to expel energy blasts; these were extremely pointless given that Jess is perfectly capable with just cryokinesis and temporary super-speed. Concerning her army outfit, that was a very quick design and I'm not sure if I'll keep it. However, I'll update the reference from time to time whenever I make some changes or have new information to add.

Abilities & Aptitude: She is a well-versed user of cryokinesis, being able to incorporate the element into her melee attacks, freeze things and a portion of the surrounding area, form objects from ice, create small-scale mini-snowstorms, and drop the temperature. Can also mimic ice, but this takes a lot of effort and isn't used much. Aside from simple objects, she may also use her powers to transform parts of herself (mostly the arms) into a weapon, such as a blade or claws (Think along the lines of Alex Mercer's shape-shifting abilities), as well as use said powers for defensive purposes. She seems to be strong physically which may explain her lack of an obvious feminine physique, but of course her strength still pales hilariously in comparison to Knuckles'. Using the power of her speed shoes, she is able to run at high speeds, though obviously not as fast as Sonic or Shadow.
Hobbies & Talents: Hobbies; challenging potentially good fighters to a battle for both fun and experience, and to teach others her skills, Talents; obviously fighting, due to her experience among other things, she can analyze situations quickly and efficiently and make the best choices based on her observations, also learns a little quicker than others.
Weaknesses: Unsurprising for a typical ice user, Jess is very vulnerable to heat, fire and sunlight, becoming very nauseous from the latter, not to mention her cryokinesis skills are rendered basically useless. This also applies to very dry enviroments, where the lack of moisture means using cryokinesis is almost impossible. Aside from this, Jess is notoriously bad with words and showing her feelings, leading most people to believe that she is a cold individual - which is somewhat true, but not quite to the extent some will think. While her speed shoes grant her incredible movement prowess, she is in truth a little slow, and has to deal with this later in life when her shoes are eventually destroyed beyond repair.

Jess is known to mostly be a little cold and distant to others, as well as somewhat of a loner, preferring to keep to herself instead of being in large crowds or with a large group of people. She doesn't like to work with others, and dislikes asking for or recieving help, preferring to resolve her problems and achieve her goals by herself. Typically she doesn't open up that easily to people, but around her close friends, a softer, more compassionate side can be seen, and it becomes known that she can be very understanding when she wants to be. She prefers to listen to words though instead of giving them, as she isn't very good at that sort of thing. Jess is serious, and doesn't underestimate things or crack jokes about them, which tends to make her look a slight killjoy.

Although female on the outside, Jess has an almost purely male mentality, and dislikes or simply doesn't do many typically female things - such as flirting, wearing girly or showy clothing, exhibiting girly habits, and so on. Coupled with the fact she looks somewhat androgynous in appearance, some people tend to get slightly confused as to what gender she is, which infuriates her infinitely.

She is very aggressive, as seen during battles, where she will not hesitate to strike at opponents with vicious blows without holding back. Considering she has learned to constantly stay alert in battle and observe the situation and surroundings, this makes her a dangerous and difficult foe to bring down. She is also short-tempered; although she tries not to lose it when people are making her mad, some things just go too far and she ends up pointing out their infinite annoyingness, or just simply shouting profanities at them. Despite all this, she is actually rather calm - as long as her fuse doesn't blow.

Being hardened to the core by many battles since her early years, Jess has learned to try and ignore pain, physical and mental. This makes her seem kind of emotionless, she just thinks it's better to stay strong and never let her harm show rather than alerting the media, stopping the press, and broadcasting it to the world.

Over the course of her story, Jess has been able to transform into various forms, some a permanant ability, some only temporary and usually enabled by another force or individual. These enhance Jess's abilities in various ways for what is often a limited amount of time. Though usually these forms do not affect Jess in any ill way, certain unwillingly obtained and negative transformations tend to turn her into almost a different person.

Super Jess: Her primary "super transformation", attained by absorbing the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds, like most known Super transformations. During this state, Jess's fur becomes a golden yellow, her irises become a ruby red, the rings on her limbs turn to an azure hue, and she becomes surrounded with a golden aura. Her abilities are also greatly enhanced, being faster, stronger, able to fly, and is also nearly invincible. She is able to manipulate Chaos energy, can perform various new elemental attacks with increased power, and is no longer subject to limitations she used to be constrained by, as most Super forms go.

Though the power of the Chaos Emeralds is infinite, Jess's time in this powered-up state is limited; it is unknown how long she can stay in it. Performing few actions and using little of her energy allows her to stay Super for a longer time, but repeated use of powerful attacks and general energy consumption drains her strength significantly faster. Once fully drained, she reverts to her normal state. Being nearly invincible, she is fully impervious to attacks from all but extremely powerful individuals that can match her strength, such as god-like figures and other transformed characters.

It's possible that she may be able to share this transformation with others in a similar manner to Sonic the Hedgehog, although this hasn't yet been demonstrated.

Dark Jess: Jess's "corrupt" Super transformation, assumed when she absorbs the power of the Chaos Emeralds whilst influenced heavily by extreme negative thoughts and feelings. Dark Jess's appearance consists of much darker-colored fur, a deeper eye color, duller-colored rings, and is surrounded by a deep violet aura. Her abilities are identical to that of her "positive" transformation, except that she performs actions far more brutally and without hesitation or remorse. The negativity of the transformation also impacts her personality as well, taking advantage of her darker traits as seen during the first time this was activated, where she will lash out towards even her own friends and frequently display violent behavior.

Dark Jess's power is, like other transformations, limited, and will end when she has run out of energy. However, she also powers down when she manages to get a grip on herself.

Goddess of Ice Forme: By absorbing the power of the Pruīnārum God Stone, Jess gains access to the powers of the legendary God of Ice. During this transformation, her fur color turns a light shade of icy blue, the ends of her spines, ears, hands, and feet are frozen solid into pure ice, and gains ornately decorated armor and a crown reflecting that of the Ice God's. Though this power is far from that of the original God's, it is extremely powerful nevertheless and Jess's strongest transformation.

Ability-wise, Jess can now perform an unlimited array of ice-elemental attacks and moves, with each one having significantly increased strength and effect. The ability to use this power is something few members of the Pruīnārum tribe have ever had the authority to do, as it is a choice made by the God himself whether or not a member deserves to have his strength bestowed upon them when they feel it is necessary.

Color: Predominantly dodger-blue, with her forearms, legs, and tips of her ears being purple.
Skin Color (i.e. muzzle, arms): Muzzle and inner ears are pale tan.
Eye Color: Pure green
Hair/Quill Style: Three bangs alike those of Amy Rose, has 9 cranial quills that hang down and kink upwards like hair.
Other bodily features: Has two purple scars across her left eye that also show on the eyelid, the purple accents dotted around her person appear to be flame-like patterns, a fluffy white chest, and has black marks around her eyes similar to those on Silver.

Attire: Her usual outfit consists of a pair of simple blue and black fingerless gloves, blue and black friction-resistant speed shoes with green gems of some sort embedded into the backs of the soles, with golden rings on her limbs. Sometimes she wears a white and blue scarf, and dons it far more frequently much later in her life. Alternate outfits include modified versions of her usual attire, with the aforementioned scarf plus a pair of blue and black goggles. As an army lieutenant-colonel, she wears a fashionable white and ice-blue outfit, with a rank badge displayed on the chest area to signify her status in the army.
Items & Weapons: Although she does not technically own any weapons, she can use her powers as mentioned above to create large blades of ice on her arms, claws, dagger-like extensions to her hands, flexible whips of ice, and shields and full-body mimicry armor for protection. Her spines also count as a weapon, as they can be frozen solid to make combat ever more deadly.
Vehicles: Only her Extreme Gear which she rarely uses as transportation.

Since recorded history, the world has constantly been locked in a state of warfare, eighteen civilizations fighting against eachother for supremacy through all means possible. Back in days of old, wars would be waged almost endlessly without letup, brutally without remorse, and hastily without thought, yet in modern times, this mindset of "destroy everyone until there is nobody left to destroy" seems to have almost completely disappeared, and now all wars have been reduced to the ironic result of attempting to ward off other countries trying to stir up trouble. Which in turn stirs up more trouble, leading to a medieval bloodfeud until everyone forgets why they started fighting in the first place and goes home.

Recently, times did an acrobatic cartwheel backwards and the world ended up unwillingly engaged in an all-out war all over again due to some high-up madman deciding it would be a good idea to try and force everyone into his way of thinking and accepting his ideals, creating one side consisting of people who agreed with his words and general idea that the world needed to be tampered with while it was still being mended, and another side who were all for just leaving it alone and stop complaining about the metaphorical food on the plate. Armies were deployed both in their own countries, and all over the world, to protect themselves and their people from a forced movement denying them their own freedom of ideals and way of life.

Somewhere in the capital of the frostbitten country of Pruīnārum, a young female hedgehog aspires to be part of this army. She is none other than Jess - At the age of 14.

Since her earliest days, she has shown to be a promising fighter; able to defeat most inexperienced adults with relative ease even as a child. This was remarkable when considering that her parents were not fighters in any way, and only got into conflict when absolutely necessary. She could control her abilities in ways most other children couldn't, and her natural combat skills were just as good. She would have been quite the prodigy if it weren't for the annoying porcupine kid apparently named "Avalanche" across the street regularly making fun of her for being the city's Titsless McGee.

As she was training to someday be part of the army, she would often take walks a little ways from her house to find adequate places to hone her skills. One of these regular adventures would eventually lead her to make a choice that turns her into one of Pruīnārum's most well-known icons. Making her way along a route that led to a secluded little lake hidden at the base of Crystal Peak's tallest mountain, she was not expecting someone else to be there too - or that they had company. What looked like three privates from presumabley the Army of Flammarum, the "arch-nemesis" of Pruīnārum, were beating an innocent man into following their "order" until he either gave in or died. Even though users of the fire element put Jess at a great disadvantage due to her extreme intolerance of heat, she knew that was not an excuse for running away, and threw herself straight into battle.

She managed to kill two of the privates and maim the other causing him to flee, but she didn't make it out okay herself, as her burn marks, bruising, and heavy breathing evidenced. As thanks for saving him, the citizen offered to take her back to his house so she could rest, to which she obliged. After taking some time to recuperate sufficiently, Jess decided there and then that she would apply for the Pruīnārum Army. After saying her goodbyes to the man she saved, she made haste back to her own house to break the news to her parents, who were extremely supportive of the idea, albeit a bit shocked and saddened by the idea that their daughter wouldn't be able to see them that often anymore as a result. But, all was well, and apply she did. Completing the neccessary tests to judge whether or not she was capable of being a worthy soldier, she passed and was finally appointed as a private in the Army.

Fast-forward four years, and Jess is now 18 years old. Much stronger, faster and wiser, aware of her full potential, a lieutenant-colonel of the Pruīnārum Army, and better respected by not only her hometown, but the country as a whole. Not much happened in the four years that passed; errands, important missions, copy-paste battles that she usually always won, etc., plus Avalanche is still the same as he was before. Jess may hold an important position in the army, but he can't hold a strand of respect for her.

Truth be told, life in the army was beginning to get tiring and cumbersome. Jess had a good excuse to dismember and disembowel battalions at a time with no repercussions, but there was no longer that same freedom anymore that she once had and thoroughly enjoyed. And she kinda missed her friends and family too, but everyone knows that you make yourself vulnerable as soon as you start to go soft. So she didn't dwell on that too often.

This all changed however when Jess was assigned her biggest task yet, which on paper seemed like another cookie-cutter hurricane of handbags, right until Jess royally screwed up in the middle of it all and contributed to the victory of the Flammarum Army, resulting in half of the Pruīnārum soldiers sent out to battle dead, and a handful enslaved to serve the opposition. With her pride and confidence shattered into pieces, and those pieces crushed into dust, and her eardrums burst as a result of recieving a mouthful from her superiors, she had no enthusiasm left to even relegate herself to a lower rank and work back up from there, or do anything. She never took losing that good. So feeling rather worthless, and wishing to regain some freedom anyway, she temporarily left the army to better herself in any way she could, and learn not to make the same mstakes she did previously, especially when something so important was on the lines. She did not specify when she would return - just when she felt the time was right. After dropping by her hometown to catch up with life and let people know of her intentions, she left the city to explore the rest of the world, and of course train until she could make up for the ramifications of her mistakes.

Along the way, she would eventually meet with a certain blue hedgehog and his friends, on a mission of their own, and in the process they will learn that something much bigger is going on past the borders of Pruīnārum that Jess would never have guessed.

:bulletblue: Miscellaneous Trivia and Things to Know :bulletblue:
When drawing Jess, keep in mind that her physique should be more akin to a male character's, and so should her actions. I cannot stress this detail enough and I die inside when people draw her all girly.

The purple scars on her left eye are also present on the eyelid. Also remember that the scars are on her left side, some people cannot tell the difference between left and right when referring to characters.

I sometimes draw little tufts of fur near her neck area, these are optional.
